SOPRANO

Karis Wiebe

Soprano, Karis Wiebe has performed on the opera and concert stage throughout Europe and in Canada. Her singing is praised as "having shining tone quality, virtuoso ornamentation, and full of expressive interpretation”.  - Frankfurter am Main - Echo

She has performed operatic roles including Konstanze in Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, “Wiebe delivered Konstanze with magically light coloratura.” - Suddeutsche Zeitung, Manon in Manon and Musetta in La Boheme.

She has appeared with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony, the Landestheater Coburg Orchestra, and numerous orchestras throughout Bavaria, Bremen and Hessen, Germany.

Karis shines in oratorio singing. In J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion: “Soprano Karis Wiebe masterfully performed the well-known aria ‘Blute nur, du liebes Herz’ with just the right combination of delicacy and power, and the clearest diction. Each note was finely crafted – this was superior singing.”  - Winnipeg Free Press

Karis has a passion for singing the concert repertoire. She is especially at home in the German Lied and Italian Art Song: “the soprano showed through precise articulation and razor-sharp coloratura that she is at home in the Italian subject.” - Coburger Tageblatt

Karis is also an active director, music educator, vocal clinician and accompanist in Winnipeg. She currently runs the choral department and the singer songwriter programme at Grant Park High School  and is the Assisant Minister of Music at First Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. She also owns and operates voice, piano, guitar, music theory and film acting programs at Karis Wiebe Studios.
